Beth Doyle (bdoyle@wickedlocal.com), Maryclare Himmel (Correspondent) Situated on picturesque River Street, this Norwell property is home to one of the town’s most prized historic homesteads, complete with a stately antique home set on a bucolic 1.75 acres surrounded by conservation land. The homestead summons a bygone time of gracious living when the original owner, shipbuilder Thomas Barstow, settled in the home with his new wife and young family in the mid-1750s. At that time, this tract of land above the banks of the North River would have been the ideal location for the master carpenter, known as one of America’s best shipbuilders, to create a home close to his work at Barstow’s Two Oaks shipyard, one of at least 11 shipyards that operated along the river and flourished well into the 19th century.
